An 18-year-old boxer is now Cameroon’s best hope of winning a medal at the Rio Olympic games.
Wilfred Dieudonne Seyi ended the country’s series of defeats Tuesday with a win against Colombian boxer Vivas Palacios.
Seyi, Team Cameroon flag-bearer, progresses to the quarterfinals of the 75kg boxing category. He next fights on Friday.
Cameroon placed its hopes on its boxing team but two fighters were boxed out of the competition in the iropening bouts.
Seyi won gold at the 2015 African Games and silver at the World Military Championships.
The 18-year-old is the son of professional boxer Rim Seyi.
