Belgian football manager Hugo Broos has been named as the new coach of Cameroon’s men football team, the Indomitanle Lions. Broos will be assisted by fellow Belgian Sven Vadenbroeck and interim manager Alex Belinga, the Cameroon football federation (Fecafoot) announced on Saturday.
Cameroon play South Africa back to back in qualifiers for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in March, before meeting France in a friendly in May. They currenlry top Group M after winning all two opening matches in the AFCON qualifiers.
Belinga has been interim coach of the team for about six months, following the non-renewal of the contract of German trainer Volker Finke, who led the team on a disastrous campaign at the Brazil 2014 World Cup.
Broos, 63, played Belgium from 1974 to 1986. He has coached 11 clubs and his best performances as coach include two-time Belgian champion with Club Brugge in 1992 and 1996. He also won the Belgian Cup with the same team in 1995 and 1996.
